Web Conference Participation Letter

Dear Colleague,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Conference Organising Committee to announce:

The first web conference of the Commission on Local Development of the International Geographical Union, to take place on 14-22 November 2005. The conference will address a range of significantly important themes relating to “Local Development”. This is a conference for any person with an interest in, and concern for, Local Development in any of its forms and in any of its sites. The conference will run for nine days and people can participate at their own convenience. There are three different topics, each with a limited number of leading papers available to be discussed for a number of days and then replaced by the next topic. The role of the papers is to initiate the discussion.

The topics are:

1) What is local development and for whom? - 14-15 November

2) The nature of local development in developing countries - 16-18 November

3) The role of talents and creative industries for local development in a globalising economy - 19-22 November

Virtual registrations are available now, which allow you to access the electronic version of the papers from November 14th and submit your ideas and comments.

Full details of the conference are to be found at the conference website.

We do hope you will be able to join us.

Yours Sincerely,

Michael Sofer
